Hi. Welcome to Blyss. Thank-you so much for taking the time to visit my blog. I am really looking forward to sharing and connecting with you.
It is my intention to inspire and motivate you on your wellness journey with my passion for plant based nourishing nutrition and the many beautiful, healing benefits that are a result from a clean lifestyle.
I will admit to you that writing and sharing with you, has been a thought of mine for a couple of years. As my illness is deeply personal and actually quite terrifying for me it has taken me some time to share. I realize now after reading Brene Brown’s “Gifts of Imperfection” on two different occasions (complete with my many sticky notes & highlighted sections) that fear has been my obstacle.
The fear of being vulnerable. The fear of sharing my story and what others will think.
So, a big Thank-you is owed to Brene Brown for sharing with me that fear was not… an obstacle to remove but one to embrace. In the “Gifts of Imperfection” the title of the preface states that “owning our story and loving ourselves through that process in the bravest thing that we will ever do.”
It has taken me eleven years to “own my story and love myself through the process.” It is an ever-evolving, day-to-day process that requires much love and cultivation.
Throughout my life, health, wellness and yoga have been my go-to place, that place where everything seems just feel right again.. A place where calm most often prevails leaving me with the peaceful feeling of balance and clarity with my body, mind and spirit, despite the chaos that is life. Sometimes I get there, sometimes I don’t. I know that you can relate. I believe that to achieve optimal health and wellness one must live a life that includes a nourishing diet comprised of conscious whole food, plant based nutrition as well as a focus on balancing the body, mind and soul through movement and meditation.
In 2004 our lives were drastically forever changed when I was diagnosed with an autoimmune illness , SLE Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, an auto-immune disease in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the body instead of protecting it. In addition to SLE I was also diagnosed with the secondary illness of Fibromylgia. With my existing passion for whole foods living, I fully immersed myself into seeking to self-educate within the health/wellness and holistic nutrition communities. I continue to do so to this day with the hope of living a more peaceful and graceful existence with chronic illness.
In 2014 our youngest daughter, Brianne, was heartbreakingly diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, further and forever changing the course of our lives. One realization from our journey has become abundantly clear, that “Even though our physical and emotional contribution to our lives and our loved ones has changed, our passion and desire has not.”
With the unconditional love and support of our family, friends and community we have taken an active role in our wellness.
It is my intention to share with you how we live. How we nourish ourselves and practice self-care within our own lives. As we heal and the illnesses evolve, the science and various holistic modalities used to treat them, I will attempt to share with you our experiences.
It is my hope to inspire Strength, Self-acceptance, Compassion, Confidence and Balance to those and their families living with chronic illness through plant based nourishment, delicious food and daily wellness options.
Wishing you wellness,
